Chromebook Care
Caring for Your Chromebook
- No food or drink should be next to your Chromebook. Sticky, crumbly, or wet substances have a way of finding the most vulnerable nooks and crannies in your keyboard.
- Cords, cables, and removable storage devices (e.g. thumb drives) must be inserted carefully into the appropriate port.
- Avoid putting objects on top of the device. Never lift a Chromebook by the screen. When a Chromebook isn’t in use, close the lid to protect the screen and keyboard.
- Avoid using liquids to clean. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean the Chromebook. Gently wipe the Chromebook screen with a soft, slightly water-dampened, lint-free cloth to clear away dust and debris.
- Charge the device before school. Bringing a fully charged device reduces energy costs for the school and leaves classrooms free of adapter cables that present tripping hazards. Repeated yanking or tugging also wears down the cable and the charging port on the Chromebook.
- Transport your Chromebook with care by putting it inside its protective case. Never store Chromebooks in bags containing heavy objects. Carrying a Chromebook in a tech backpack pocket is generally safe only if the backpack isn’t loaded with bulky textbooks. Carrying cases should not hold other objects (folders, books, chargers) to avoid placing excessive pressure and weight on the Chromebook screen.
- Don't leave your Chromebook anywhere. The student or family will assume full responsibility for the loss of the device and the corresponding financial obligation for the replacement costs of the lost property.
- Do not throw or slide your Chromebook. Never place it on the floor or in an area where it can be accidentally kicked or hit by someone or something. Take care not to bump the device against lockers, doors or floors. Never expose a Chromebook to long-term temperature extremes or direct sunlight. Therefore, an automobile is not a good place to store a Chromebook.
