January 23 Update

January 23 Update

Good Afternoon,

We want to provide an update on this morning’s events that led to the delayed opening.

Overnight both boilers shut down as there was a fault in the system. Mr. Brown immediately called for service.  Upon arrival, Mr. Brown discovered that several classrooms, both upstairs and downstairs, were colder than expected, especially given the recent frigid temperatures. He was able to restart one boiler, however one of the boilers was non-operational.

A technician arrived and began work on the system. The delayed opening was called to allow time for the system to restore heat and ensure classrooms could be brought up to a comfortable temperature before students and staff arrived. Whenever work is done on the system and the mechanical room door is opened and closed for any extensive period of time there is an opportunity for glycol odors to waft and be experienced.

Currently, one boiler remains non-operational, but we are thankful we were able to have school. The technician will return after dismissal today around 3:00pm to continue the necessary repairs and work toward fully restoring the system when there are very few people in the area of the mechanical room. There will likely be some glycol smell throughout the main hallways which is why the work was postponed until after dismissal. The double doors to the gym and cafeteria will be closed as a precautionary measure to help mitigate any potential odor.

As always, we will provide updates if there are any significant changes or developments as we closely monitor and manage the system around the clock.

Your collaboration as a community is appreciated as we continue to work through these challenges.

Respectfully,

Ronna & Jeff
